THE PRECISION AND ARTISTRY OF A GYMNAST

Nika Takagi began training at SGI at the age of 7 and is proud to say that she has been an SGI girl for 12 years! Nika started off her gymnastics career as a level 2  gymnast to help introduce her to the competitive world. The year after, Nika started in the national stream. From 2009-2011, she competed as a pre-novice national, and was the 2011 Eastern Canadian Champion! From 2012-2013, Nika competed as a novice, from 2014-2015 she competed as a junior, and from 2016-2019 she completed as a level 10. Nika has represented SGI and Ontario many times, including the 2011 Eastern Championships, the 2016 Tour team held in Las Vegas, and the 2018 Nationals team in which the Ontario team placed first overall.

One of Nika's biggest accomplishments throughout her gymnastics career was getting a full-ride gymnastics scholarship to the University of Bridgeport. She will be spending the next four years representing the Purple Knights! Nika says that "the biggest reason I have been a part of this gym for so long is due to my coaches and teammates. Since I’ve spent 25 hours a week training for 12 years now, I’ve learned most, if not all, of my life lessons here. I’ve learned to persevere when I have setbacks, to take on a leadership role, and to always respect my coaches and teammates."
