My Love for the Sport of
Gymnastics is Neverending
Being asked to look back on my time at SGI and put that experience into a couple of paragraphs is a near impossible task. My love for the sport of gymnastics is never ending- it took a couple of tries but I managed to retire almost 10 year ago now. SGI allowed me to develop that love, and then they let me bounce back until I was ready to go. Now I go back just for hugs and the nostalgic smell of chalk and feet.
The qualities a person develops through sport are numerous. I can vouch for the fact that it fosters time management, goal setting, perseverance, social skills, self esteem and not to mention strong bodies. But what I gained from SGI was the feeling that comes from being part of a team, a family that cares about who you grow up to be. Growing up at SGI I built relationships with coaches who cared about me and who wanted me to be my best. They taught me trust in myself and my body, and trust that the adults around me would still be there when I fell. New skills and medals are really fun, but unconditional love and respect creates the kind of self worth that you can rely on for the rest of your life.
